It even kills cacti.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...
My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 13 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.
This time we will introduce "Hildewintera colladamononis".
This is a string cactus that is also known as "cat's tail."
A late bloomer
Many people may not realize they have seen them at gardening stores or home improvement centers because the ones sold in stores usually do not have a thick layer of white hair.
Until it grows further, it's just a string cactus.
It is indistinguishable from the common string cactus.
When I first started raising them, I was full of doubt, wondering, "Is that really a cat's tail?"
The changes started to appear when it reached over 40cm.
The hair at the tip started to grow...and after a month it was full and lush!
It took about six months for the results to come in, so it was a gardening job that required patience.
I feel like a lot of plants that grow white hairs are cacti.
Is there a reason why this is not seen in many other plants?
Obedient
It is simple to grow and requires the same care as a regular cactus.
It's an easy variety to grow, and there's nothing special about it.
Considering that some cacti can be difficult to deal with, "Cat's Tail" is a very good one.
For now, I'm keeping them outdoors in a simple greenhouse during the winter.
Red flower
Despite its appearance, it produces showy red flowers.
Only a few flowers have bloomed in my garden.
If you grow it well, it will produce as many flowers as a hyacinth.
I'd like to see it in full bloom.
Plant Gachimeter
Finally, let me announce my very personal score for "Hildewintera Corademononis."
Ease of cultivation: 19 points. Excellent toughness, having withstood this year's extreme heat.
Ease of tailoring: 18 points. I let it grow out. If it gets too long, I can just cut the ends.
Growth rate: 14 points (normal). The same as a regular prickly pear or string cactus.
・Osaka suitability: 18 points It withstood the intense heat, but how well will it withstand when temperatures drop below freezing?
・Liking level: 20 points I like plants with fluffy white hairs.
Overall score: 89 points
That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
