This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.

This time we will introduce the rare Philodendron "Joepie".

What kind of plant is Philodendron joppii?

Philodendron is a popular houseplant with many varieties.
This plant has been popular in Japan for a long time.
As for common species, small sizes can be purchased at 100 yen shops.

Recently, the Birkin bag with its beautiful white veins has become popular.
The equally popular "Pink Princess" with its dazzling pink color is also a philodendron.

"Jawpie" is a variety discovered by the Dutch botanist Moonen in 1991.
She used to be called "Mooney" and was named after her.
I was unable to find out why it was changed to "Joe Pee."

Although it is sold as a rare species, its wild population appears to be declining even in its native South America.
Such rare plants are sometimes sold at home improvement stores.
We live in amazing times.

It's normal

When you hear that it is a rare species, it sounds like it would be difficult to handle, but the way to grow it is not much different from the commonly available philodendrons.

They don't need the same high humidity as plants grown in terrariums.
Of course, since it is a tropical plant, it thrives in a high humidity environment, but it will thrive well if you use a humidifier.

The leaves get quite large, so they will take up a lot of space as they grow.
By the way, the leaves in my house aren't growing very big at the moment, perhaps because there isn't enough light...

No longer "Star Trek"

The long, vertical leaves of the "Joe Pee" are very attractive and are often described as "dog-shaped."
It's true, it does seem that way.

When I see the leaves, I always think of the Enterprise from Star Trek.
Just in case some of you don't know, the "Enterprise" is a spaceship.

Finally, I'll give the Philodendron Jawpie a score based on my very personal opinion.

Ease of cultivation: 18 points. It is weak to cold. However, it does not seem to be extremely weak.

-Ease of arranging: It will not stay together unless it is climbed up onto a 14-point moss pole or a staghorn fern support.

・Growth rate: 15 points. A little slow.

Osaka suitability: 18 points. It seems to be fine except for the cold. Direct sunlight is a no-no.

・Likeability: 20 points It's the Enterprise, after all. That's a perfect score.

Total score: 85 points
