Countless plants withered.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...
My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 14 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.
This time we will introduce the orchid "Europhia petersii", which grows wild in dry regions.
What kind of plant is Europhia petersii?
Some of you may have already guessed it when you saw the shape.
Europhia petersii is an orchid native to southern and eastern Africa.
Orchids are plants that are found mainly in tropical regions.
Petersey finds himself in an environment that is the complete opposite of this.
Looking at photos of the area, you can see them growing in clusters on rugged rocky terrain.
I will never forget the shock I felt when I first saw it in the magazine "BRUTUS: Rare Plants."
Considering that nearly nine years have passed since then, it seems that bizarre plants are no longer a fad but have become established.
The delicate and pretty flowers are a cute contrast
It produces delicate flowers that are hard to imagine from its rugged appearance.
It grows a long stem like an aloe, and at the end of the stem blooms a flower so small it's hard to believe it's an orchid.
How can I make it bloom?
Unfortunately, it has been four years since we had it in our home, but it has never bloomed...
Don't back down! Don't flatter! Don't reflect!
It's growing so fast that it's hard to tell whether it's growing or not.
He also has quite the poker face.
I don't know if there is enough water or light throughout the year or not.
Mr. Petersey is a handsome man who never worries about what others think.
They will not be shaken by anything unusual.
It's one of those plants that when it withers, my heart crumbles with a clatter.
Plant Gachimeter
Finally, I'll give "Europhila petersii" a score based on my very personal opinion.
Ease of growing: 19 points. It should be weak to cold. It's OK if kept indoors in winter.
-Ease of training: 20 points. It grows slowly so it requires little effort.
・Growth rate: 8 points I'd love to see them growing in clusters...
・Suitability for Osaka: 18 points Bring it inside when it gets cold!
・Likeability: 20 points The height of strangeness!
Total score: 85 points
That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
