I'm Suzuki, and this is my 14th year as a hobby gardener.
This section introduces only plants I have actually grown.

This time, I'll introduce "Philodendron Mayoi," a plant that teaches us the origins of plant beauty.

What kind of plant is Philodendron Mayoi?

It's a relatively new variety discovered in Brazil in 2000.
You don't often see it in its mature form in Japan, but its leaves grow quite large.

As it grows larger, the lobes become deeper, giving it a very exotic appearance.
Its sharp leaf shape gives it a sleek impression despite its large size.

It is very similar to "Philodendron Tango," making it difficult to distinguish when young.

It stretches if it doesn't get enough sunlight.

It grows well even in partial shade.
However, the stems grow like vines, which doesn't look very appealing.
Mine has ended up in that state...
When this happens, it becomes even harder to distinguish it from "Tango."

You can bring out Mayoi's charm better by growing it in a place with a good amount of light.
Even if the plant's shape gets distorted, it's easy to restore it by pruning, so keep trying until you achieve the silhouette you desire.
