リアル観葉植物栽培記#10 「ユーフォルビア・イネルミス」(九竜頭)

Real Houseplant Cultivation Diary #10 "Euphorbia inermis" (Kuryuzu)

Countless plants withered.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...

My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 13 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.

We would like to introduce ``Inermis'' from among the several Euphorbias we are breeding.

What kind of plant is Euphorbia inermis?

In Japan, it is classified as "Takomono" among Euphorbias.
Its native habitat is the Cape Province of South Africa, where the annual temperature is around 16 to 26 degrees Celsius. This is a climate that is very kind to plants.
Despite this, it is not extremely sensitive to the cold and can survive the winter without any problems even in an unheated simple greenhouse.
That said, it is a Euphorbia, so it is safe to keep it indoors in winter.

It grows quickly

They grow quickly, but perhaps they slow down once they reach a certain size.
The main trunk doesn't change much, but the branches grow rapidly.
However, if it does not get enough sunlight it will grow leggy.
Reducing the frequency of watering is also key to keeping octopus plants from growing too long.

Some people grow their plants sturdy, thick, and strong without letting the branches grow too long, so I plan to grow them in a place with stronger light and wind in the future.

Euphorbia beginner-friendly

There are several Euphorbias that are easy to grow, but this is one of the hardiest.
As long as you pay attention to the sunlight, I don't think it will die suddenly.
I've never had any insects bite so far.

This is a plant that I would recommend to anyone who has had to kill a cactus in the past.

The only drawback is that it takes up space

It is the fate of plants that grow branches, but they take up more floor space than types that grow vertically.
If you place similar types of plants side by side, the branches will get tangled and cause a lot of trouble...

The pot doesn't have to be very big.
Choose a pot size that suits the size of the main stem.

Plant Gachimeter

Finally, I'll give "Euphorbia inermistula" a score based on my very personal opinion.

Ease of raising: 18 points. A good boy who requires almost no effort.

Ease of care: 18 points. No need to worry about anything. Just make sure it gets plenty of sun and waters well.

・Growth speed: 17 points
You can enjoy watching it grow over the course of a year.

・Suitability for Osaka: 17 points The cold winter weather is scary after all.
Below freezing is probably impossible...

・Liking level: 17 points I like octopus with thick stems!

Total score: 87 points

That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
