Countless plants withered under my care.
But I don't look back. If I did, I wouldn't be able to stay sane...
Hello, I'm Suzuki, and this is my 14th year as a hobby gardener.
This section introduces only plants I've actually grown.
This time, I'll be introducing the "Anthurium Vittarifolium," a plant popular for its simple silhouette.
What kind of plant is Anthurium Vittarifolium?
Its native region is South America, including Colombia and Brazil.
In the wild, it often grows epiphytically on other plants.
I believe this is why it's often sold in hanging pots in Japan.
Its leaves can grow over 2 meters long.
Its unique leaf shape, which is hard to find elsewhere, is its charm. It's a highly popular variety.
Variegated forms also exist, but they are not established varieties.
Even beginners can rest assured
Among aroids, I personally find it to be one of the easier types to grow.
It doesn't require much light, so it's fair to say it has "shade tolerance."
It doesn't dramatically weaken.
However, if you want its leaves to grow large and strong, make sure it gets proper sunlight.
You don't need to be meticulous about watering, either.
Even without a humidifier, it won't get damaged by humidity.
Outdoors is an option from spring to autumn
While I said it's not sensitive to drying out, it absolutely loves water.
Once temperatures exceed 20℃, keeping it outdoors makes it easier to manage.
Especially in summer, it thrives with plenty of water.
It doesn't like strong direct sunlight.
Let it spend its time in a semi-shady, well-ventilated spot.
A strong candidate for hanging plants
There are several plants that can be hung.
Pothos, Rhipsalis, Syngonium, etc.
The biggest weakness of these plants is that they "require a fair amount of maintenance."
They grow quickly and will keep extending unless pruned.
In contrast, the leaves of Vittarifolium are well-contained and require little effort.
This is another point that makes it beginner-friendly!
