[24 Solar Terms] White Dew

These days, it seems like the sun sets earlier than usual.
This time we will talk about Hakuro, the 15th season in the 24 solar terms.

What is Shiratsuyu?

White dew refers to the period from September 8th to September 22nd.
It is said that the name Shiratsuyu comes from the fact that the mornings and evenings gradually become cooler and white dew forms on the grass blades.
It will still be hot during the day, but it may be relatively cool in the mornings and evenings, so be careful not to get sick due to the temperature changes.

Seasonal ingredients

The seasonal foods in Shiratsuyu are pears and pumpkins.
Autumn is said to be the season of appetite, and many of the ingredients available at this time of year are flavorful and highly nutritious.
Pears are sweet but low in calories, and pumpkins are rich in dietary fiber!

In Kansai It is characterized by an oval-shaped dumpling wrapped in red bean paste.
And in Okinawa It is called Fuchagi, and is a mochi covered in a thick layer of red beans, and has the same meaning as Tsukimi Dango.
The rice cake represents the moon, and the red beans represent countless stars.
It's also fun to learn about the different ways Tsukimi Dango are made in different regions.
