Countless plants withered.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...
My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 14 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.
This time we will introduce the vital plant " Hailaeichum mouleanum ".
What kind of plant is Hailaeichum mooreanum?
This plant is native to Ecuador and Peru in South America.
They grow in clusters, wrapping around the trunks of large trees.
The sight of so many Mooreanum plants covering the trees is a bit creepy (lol).
It was previously known as Neoregelia mouleana.
It is a type of "tank bromeliad" that has many enthusiasts in Japan.
Strong growth
There are several fast-growing varieties of tank bromeliads.
We have about 20 different types of tank plants at home, and Mooreanum is one of the fastest growing.
Its growth and branching speed are both among the best in the tank world.
Therefore, if it is not exposed to plenty of sunlight and a strong breeze, it will become leggy.
The photos on this page show the end result.
When grown tightly, the plant takes on a rounded shape and the leaves curl up like the curls of medieval European hair.
Individual differences vary
Tank bromeliads seem to vary more from one to another than other plants.
Even within the same variety, the shape, size, color, and leaf shape can vary considerably.
One of the reasons is that they are easily affected by differences in their growing environment.
However, when you look at the varieties on the market, you might think, "The variety name is definitely wrong..."
Mooreanum comes in a variety of types, including those with intense yellow color and leaves that curl strongly.
At this point, the only option is to collect them by type.
Yes, you can't collect them.
Plant Gachimeter
Finally, I will give a score to "Hailaeaicum mouleanum" from my very personal perspective.
Ease of growing: 20 points. It's fine indoors in winter. It doesn't droop in summer either.
-Ease of tailoring: 14 points, round, difficult to swirl.
Growth rate: 20 points faster. Not red, but Char Aznable.
・Suitability for Osaka: 19 points. It seems impossible to survive winter outdoors. I'll try it this year!
・Likeability: 20 points The tanks are great when they grow in groups!
Total score: 93 points
That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
