The vitality rooted in the Tohoku region

Some of the pine used is from Minamisanriku Town, Motoyoshi County, Miyagi Prefecture. Minamisanriku was hit by the tsunami caused by the Tohoku earthquake. Production of black pine began about six years ago with the aim of reusing the land.

This pine tree has been grown with care and love. It makes a perfect lucky charm!

A pine tree where craftsmanship lives on

Each pine tree is inspected by hand, and unnecessary branches and leaves are carefully removed by hand.

This is a very important part of completing a beautiful Kadomatsu, so human hands are required.

    The origin of Kadomatsu

    The pine tree, an evergreen that always has leaves and therefore symbolizes the wish for eternal prosperity, is placed at the gate, hence the name "Kadomatsu."

    The custom of Kadomatsu was introduced to Japan during the Heian period, and the current practice of cutting the ends of the bamboo diagonally, known as "sogi," is said to have originated with Tokugawa Ieyasu about 400 years ago (during the Azuchi-Momoyama period).

    In order to defeat Takeda Shingen, he cut a bamboo (Takeda) diagonally and erected it as a warning to himself.
    It is said that Kadomatsu began to be displayed at New Year's around the time of the transition from the Edo period to the Meiji period.
