Lily of the valley day - Visiting the production area

It's lily of the valley season again!
Lily of the valley has long been loved as a flower that brings happiness, with the flower language representing "pure love" and "the return of happiness."
As May 1st has become widely known as "Lily of the Valley Day," the flower has become more and more popular every year, and it's one of my favorites!

I went to the lily of the valley producing area!

This time, Hannah's buyer visits a lily of the valley producing area.
We visited Nashimoto Farm in Iiyama City, Nagano Prefecture.

Lily of the valley is becoming more and more popular every year, but it takes just two to three years to grow seedlings.
It is a very time-consuming and labor-intensive plant that requires manpower to select.

At Nashimoto Farm, they have continued to hone their techniques for the benefit of those who still enjoy lily of the valley, overcoming difficulties such as pests and diseases to cultivate lily of the valley of unparalleled quality and quantity.

"It took a long time and a lot of effort to get this product ready for shipping.
Please enjoy the beautiful fragrance and blooming flowers of the lily of the valley.

How to decorate with lily of the valley

The lily of the valley is carefully cultivated and brought to us.
Here are some ways to decorate your home so you can enjoy it for as long as possible.

Cut lily of the valley

Drain the water just like you would any other cut flower.

Lily of the valley is not very tall so it is best suited to smaller vases.
The leaves are a vibrant green, making the white flowers stand out!
Keep it in a cool place and change the water frequently.

Lily of the valley with roots

If the lily of the valley has roots, first remove the soil from around the roots.
Change the water several times until it no longer becomes cloudy.
By carefully removing the soil here, you can fully enjoy the beauty of the roots.

We recommend a clear glass vase so you can see the roots!
Fill it about halfway with water and place the lily of the valley in it.
Just like cut flowers, keep them in a cool place and change the water frequently.
After the flowers have finished blooming, try planting them in soil.
If all goes well, you may be able to see lilies of the valley blooming in your home next year!

Nashimoto Farm's high quality lily of the valley is only possible thanks to love, tireless effort, and the pure nature of Oku-Shinano!
Currently, lily of the valley is only cultivated in very limited areas of Nagano, Niigata, and Hokkaido, and is becoming a rare flower every year.
If you were lucky enough to come across lily of the valley at a flower shop, that alone may be a blessing. This year, why not share that happiness with someone you care about?
