Countless plants withered.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...
My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 13 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.
This time we will introduce Philodendron Fanban, which has a distinctive leaf shape.
What kind of plant is Philodendron fanbang?
It seems that "Fanban" is a modified version of "Goeldy."
(Goeldy is also called Cody or Goudi)
In Japan and overseas, "Fanban" is often sold as "Goeldy," but this is probably not the case.
I couldn't find any clear literature, but the leaves of "Goeldii" are thinner and seem to have a leaf shape closer to that of "Urashimasou."
Top-class ease of cultivation
Perhaps because it has been bred as a horticultural variety, it is one of the philodendrons that is less susceptible to the cold.
Although it is not as hardy as the Kookaburra, even beginners can grow it without worry.
Although it can tolerate shade, it grows better in a certain amount of sunlight.
Wind will prevent the plant from growing too long and the stems will grow well, so it is recommended to keep it outdoors once the weather gets warmer.
Grow up
There are quite a few types of Araceae plants, including philodendrons, that grow to large sizes.
"Fanbang" is one of them.
When it grows, the leaves grow larger than a human face.
Just one pot can give a room a jungle feel.
Even if you see a small seedling that you want, it may be best to imagine its future size before purchasing.
Plant Gachimeter
Finally, I'll give the Philodendron Fanbang a score based on my very personal opinion.
-Ease of growing: 17 points. It won't die even if you forget to water it a little.
- Ease of training: 17 points. If it grows well, the tree shape will be neat.
Growth rate: 18 points. The growth period from spring to autumn is a visible change.
・Suitability for Osaka: 17 points I don't like the cold.
・Likeness rating: 15 points Actually, I wanted Goeldy! Sorry...
Total score: 84 points
That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
