Real Houseplant Cultivation Diary #21 "Aloe Castilloniae"

Countless plants withered.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...

My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 14 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.

This time we will introduce the rugged beauty of Aloe castilloniae.

What is Aloe castilloniae?

This aloe grows only in Madagascar.
This variety was discovered relatively recently in 2006.
They grow in lush clusters, crawling along the ground.

They are also available in Japan, but they come in a variety of shapes and forms, making it difficult to tell which are the original species and which are hybrids.
Madagascar is one of the holy lands of bizarre plants.
I would love to see some wild Castilloniae someday.

Please turn up the water

It grows naturally on rocky areas and looks like it can handle less water than other aloe plants.
It does not tolerate humidity well and must be grown in a dry environment, but it likes water more than you might think.
If there is a lack of water during the growing season, the leaves will quickly become wrinkled.

Casual is good, casual is good

Many of the plants for sale may be single stems.
Personally, I think the true essence of Castilloniae lies in its "cluster growth."
If you get one, leave at least one pot untouched and enjoy the wild, clump-like growth.

Plant Gachimeter

Finally, I will give Aloe Castilloniae a score based on my very personal opinion.

・Ease of cultivation: 19 points. Please give it water.

-Ease of tailoring: 20 points, no need to do anything.

・Growth rate: 19 points. Growth can be seen in one year.

・Osaka suitability: 19 points. Be careful in winter.

・Likeability: 20 points. Very handsome in many ways!

Overall score: 97 points

That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
