Countless plants withered.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...
My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 13 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.
This time I'd like to introduce my favorite member of the Aloe genus, Striatula.
What kind of plant is Aloe striatura?
This is an aloe that grows in South Africa.
This is one of the hardiest varieties of aloe, and is cold-resistant, surviving temperatures as low as -5°C.
In Japan, it is sometimes called "Yashiaroe."
Recently, they have also started to appear in fashionable interior shops and gardening stores.
I love the sun
Above all, it loves sunlight. If there is not enough light, the stems and leaves will quickly become thin and weak.
Even if you place it indoors, it will not have a muscular, manly appearance unless it is placed in a place with plenty of sunlight.
This aloe is best suited to those who are strict enough to grow it in rain except in winter.
When choosing at the store, try to choose a plant that is as sturdy as possible.
Even if you buy a weak plant, it is a sturdy type, so it is possible to strengthen it again fairly quickly.
Planting in the ground is a dream
The impressive sight of the striate tulips growing in clusters is truly impressive!
It is a shrub-like aloe and can grow to a height of about 2m.
Watching them grow freely, one cannot help but feel the breath of nature.
The best way to bring out the most of their overflowing vitality is to plant them in the ground.
But we don't have the space for that in our house...
I dream of the day when I can plant Striatura in the ground.
Growing rapidly
Striatura's strength is not just its resistance to heat and cold.
Even if the roots rot, if you cut off the healthy part of the stem and put it in a jug of water or take a cutting, the roots will grow rapidly.
If the environment is right, the stems will grow, branch, and produce leaves.
The only thing is that it is prone to attracting scale insects.
Symptoms become more noticeable when the plant is weak.
As long as you keep your aloe in good condition, there is no need to worry about it getting sick.
Plant Gachimeter
Finally, I'll give Aloe Striatura a score based on my very personal opinion.
Ease of raising: 19 points. Like the Kryptonian Superman, he is nearly invincible if there is enough sunlight.
A weakness is that lack of sunlight is easily noticeable.
-Ease of tailoring: 20 points - No worries no matter where you cut it.
-Growth rate: 19 points. The growth period shows a clear change within a week.
It's fun to watch.
・Suitability for Osaka: 19 points Osaka is also cold in winter, so minus 1 point.
Be careful in areas where temperatures are well below freezing.
・Likeability: 20 points. Easy to grow, simple to understand, and straightforward aloe.
Overall score: 97 points
That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
