リアル観葉植物栽培記#33 「ピペル シルバティクム」

Real Houseplant Cultivation Diary #33 "Piper silvaticum"

Countless plants withered.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...

My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 14 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.

This time we will introduce "Piper silvaticum", a plant that anyone who likes leaf veins should have at least one of.

What kind of plant is Piperus sylvaticum?

It is a member of the Piperaceae family, native to the Eastern Himalayas in Bangladesh and also found in India, China, and Myanmar.
It grows densely near the ground in humid areas of mountain forests.
It is the same species as the previously introduced " Piper Otsunatum" and has a very similar appearance.

I love the sun

From reading information online, it seems that it prefers partial shade and is able to tolerate shade.
When you actually try growing it, if there is not enough light than you expected, the plant will grow leggy and have fewer leaves.
To keep it looking nice, it's best to keep it in a bright environment.
A grow light will suffice, so make sure you provide plenty of light.

Humidity is important

If there is insufficient humidity or water, the plant will drop its leaves. It does not suffer from the summer heat, but it is probably best to give it more water.
In winter, they are sensitive to the cold, so they are completely out of the outdoors.
Indoors, keep your plants happy by using a humidifier and spraying water on the leaves with a spray bottle.

A silvery melancholy drifts through the air.

It's cool how it doesn't make a showy statement, but quietly asserts its silvery shine.
The deep, dark green and silver color balance of the leaves is a beauty not found in any other plant.
I feel very embarrassed about myself for being so excited about the white and yellow spots.

Plant Gachimeter

Finally, I will give "Piper silvaticum" a score based on my very personal opinion.

-Ease of raising: It takes a little time to get used to the 16-point characteristics.

-Ease of tailoring: 13 points. Since it is a creeping plant, some ingenuity is required.

・Growth rate: 17 points. Grows rapidly if the environment is right.

・Osaka suitability: 17 points. Keep indoors in winter.

・Liking level: 18 points I'm in love with his handsome appearance.

Total score: 81 points

That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
