Countless plants withered.
But I don't look back. If I do, I won't be able to keep my sanity...
My name is Suzuki and I've been gardening as a hobby for 14 years.
This is a section that introduces only plants that we have actually grown.
This time we will introduce the irresistible "Phlebosia Nicolas Diamond", with its fluffy roots and appearance that seems to embody the jungle.
What kind of plant is Phlebosia Nicolas Diamond?
Even if you search overseas websites , there is no information about this variety other than that it is a hybrid of Phlebodium and Pyrosia.
As you can tell from its hairy roots, it is a type of fern.
By the way, popular varieties of Phlebodium include Blue Star and Davana!
A famous example of the "Pyrosia" plant is the Japanese laurel grass, which is probably familiar to those who like classical gardening and wildflowers.
The name is the best
I have a few ferns growing and they are some of my favorite plants.
But that's not the deciding factor for buying it.
The deciding factor is the name.
"Nicholas Diamond"...
So cool!
My favorite movie actor, Nicolas Cage, is in Diamonds!!
The words don't make any sense, but the feeling after reading it is great.
When you hear a name like this, you have to buy it!
Easy to grow but slow starter
It seems impossible to keep it outdoors in winter.
However, it doesn't seem to be particularly sensitive to the cold.
Summer management is more difficult.
It grows best in full sun, but will weaken if the temperature is too high.
So I try to keep it in a cool, well-ventilated place with plenty of sunlight.
I've only ever purchased one so I can't be sure, but it may be a plant that is sensitive to major changes in the environment.
Nicholas was full of energy at the store, but as soon as he came to our house he started to get weak.
I got it around the beginning of June, which is still a gentle season for plants.
It took about six months to get on track for growth.
One plant that is sensitive to changes in the environment is the oak leaf rubber plant.
It depends on the individual plant and the environment it was in before you bought it, but some plants are not good at being moved.
Plant Gachimeter
Finally, I will give a score to "Phlebosia Nicolas Diamond" from my very personal perspective.
Ease of raising: 17 points. I don't know if it's weak to movement, so I gave it this score.
-Ease of training: 20 points. Drops leaves naturally and grows naturally.
Growth rate: 15 points. I feel like this is slow for a fern.
・Osaka suitability: 17 points The problem comes when the summer heat really gets to its peak.
・Likeability: 20 points (actually more than 20 points!) Because Nicholas is a diamond!
Overall score: 89 points
That's all, Editor-in-Chief.
